Another of the many resorts loosely linked in the 650km of the Portes du Soleil, Chatel remains an essentially French resort. Its recent growth, mostly organic and unplanned, has allowed it to blossom into a major tourist hub. This can mean a hefty walk or a bus journey, but the variety then available is more than worth the trek. As with neighbouring resorts like Les Gets and Morzine, the town's low altitude can mean little resort-level snow.
